Mr Hewitt also remains a keen investor in the trusts run by another veteran, James Henderson, who works at Janus Henderson.
Mr Henderson manages the Law Debenture Investment Trust, the Lowland Investment Trust and the Henderson Opportunities trust, all three of which have endured a period of under performance, and all three of which are held in Mr Hewitt’s fund.
The Lowland investment trust has lost 2 per cent over the past year, a time period when the average trust in the AIC UK Equity Income sector gained 4 per cent.
The trust is the absolute best performer in the income portion of Mr Hewitt’s trust since he bought it in 2009, returning 231 per cent.
He said: “James Henderson is an outstanding stock picker and fund manager. He tends to use the value style of investing which had been out of favour, and also he tends to own a lot of small caps, which had underperformed, but he is very good at what he does.”
