Investors in UK equities have been warned of the risks to portfolio returns should the UK leave the European Union next March without a deal in place.

Meanwhile, the pound has taken much of the hit so far from the debate over Brexit, although many investors view a decline in its value as an investment opportunity.
Commenting on the performance of equity markets in July, Gill Hutchison, research director at The Adviser Centre and Embark Group, said: "Given another bout of sterling weakness, overseas allocations in UK investors’ portfolios were particularly rewarding.
"The UK market lagged developed peers, but still rose by over 1 per cent, despite the political traumas.
"Larger caps broadly outperformed mid and smaller-cap companies."
Nevertheless, as the negotiations over the terms of the UK’s departure continue to play out, advisers’ clients may feel unsettled by the uncertainty.
